Hiking in the rain

For the first time we faced some of New Zealand's infamous rainy weather.  Though it wasn't so bad, for most of our hike it was not actually raining.  I certainly had flashbacks to working in Ketchikan in Alaska though, hiking through a down pour.

Dan is checking out one of the numerous little man-made caves on the Pa site, a Maori fortified hill.

If I put all the pictures of ferns that I took on this blog, I would fill up pages and pages and then a few more pages.  And that is with not being able to take pictures in the rain.

After the rain.

This was at the end of the hike, the sun peaked nicely out from the clouds to light up the Pa site.

Who knew the cross section of these palm trees (fern tree maybe?) looked like this?  I didn't!
