Queenstown and beyond

Queenstown is a mecca for young adventure travelers.  It sort of has it all, the mountains, water, adventure sports, bars and whole lots of people.  So while it is probably a wonderful place for lots of people, it's not my scene.  I did go on a run on a trail that went up a mountain right on the edge of the town, which was amazing.  It reminded me a lot of being in Juneau actually, there are buildings on the mountain until it gets to be too steep to build, then trails lead out from town for all the outdoorsy types to get their fix without even needing to drive anywhere. Not to mention the steep roads that are a workout to just walk along,  and I presume a nightmare to drive on when it's cold and icy.

Queenstown waterfront.

There are plenty of lodging opportunities of visitors.  I wonder how many people would be left if everyone who wasn't  a resident of Queenstown disappeared one day?

There was a market that day, with people selling all sorts of knick-nacks and a band playing in a grassy park.
After everyone doing what they needed to do in civilization, we left for one of my favorite places that we visited in New Zealand.
Now here we go, lakes, check.  Mountains, check.  Lack of people, check.

We camped in a large valley, with mountains on all sides,  lakes and grassy fields in between.

The sky decided to put on a nice show for us!
